I agree with you that the reproduction of traditional African Art is a problem for the collector. But you should also be aware that it is not only the chinese people who are making reproductions of African Art. Also the African people themselves are buying African Art books and are very clever to make "used patina's" on recently carved pieces in ateliers.

I prefer to find pieces coming from old collections, and don't buy much directly. Not because I don't want, but because if I want to have older african Art I'd better look in Europe or the US.
